チャンピオンズリーグ予備戦、リバプール初戦の相手はＴＮＳ

以前、ウェールズリーグ優勝チーム枠をリバプールに譲ってもイイぜ、とオーナーが口にしたチーム*1。これネタじゃないよね？と思ってしまった。捕らぬタヌキの皮算用をしていたＴＮＳのオーナーは、たとえ１試合になるかも知れないけど、集客収入がたくさん入って大喜びでしょう。といっていたら案の定、ＴＮＳ公式サイトでは「IT'S LIVERPOOL!!」とトップページに載せて大はしゃぎの模様。

TNS drew Liverpool in the first qualifying round of the Uefa Champions League in the draw in Geneva today. The only downside for Saints is that the first leg will be at Anfield - the club would have preferred a first leg in Wales, probably at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. But there will be enormous interest in the tie between the reigning European champions and the Welsh Premier League champions. The ties will be played on 12/13 July and 19/20 July with the winner to play either HB Torshavn (Faroe Islands) or FB Kaunas of Lithuania.
TNS general manager Ian Williams was delighted with the draw: "You can't do better than that," he said. "It will increase the profile of the club both nationally and internationally and will benefit us financially as well." Williams confirmed that Wrexham's Racecourse Ground is the preferred option for the 'home' leg, but with a seated capacity of just over 10,000, the club may be forced to consider the Millennium Stadium, which was used for the Uefa Cup tie with Manchester City.

ＴＮＳのGMであるウィリアムス氏は「これ以上いいことはない。国内外でのチームの評判は上がるし、チームも儲かるし」と大喜び。さすがに1000人規模の収容能力しかないホームスタジアムでは無理らしく、ウィリアムス氏はWrexhamのRacecourse Groundをホーム会場にしようとしたものの、10,000ちょっとのキャパでは足りないので、ホームゲームはレーマンが神になったミレニアムでやるようだ。
